Psalm 100

Psalm 100 King James Version (KJV)
100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Rising early this morning, I opened the patio door to look outside toward the east to see a beautiful sunrise.  The sun was just peeking over the horizon with the rays of light stretching out in shades of red into bright yellows.  There was a cool breeze whispering in my ear that fall is approaching.  I could not help but stand there for a few moments to take in the beauty of the morning as the sun slowly rises to bring in a new day.

I’m not sure what it is that brings out the peacefulness of a sunrise like this, but it always seems to fill me with a calmness no matter what troubles I may be facing.  It brings a serenity and inner peace and joy that carries through my entire day.

I was reminded of Psalm 100 this morning as I stood there.  Often times when I am alone with my thoughts in an outdoor setting, I am reminded of the Psalms and of King David as a young boy watching over his sheep.  As well as when he was being pursued by King Saul and God delivered him out of Saul’s hands so many times.  David would spend time alone with God on a hillside at all times of the day and night seeking the peace of God he let his mind move to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to bring him the answers to his problems.

I find that I, too, spend time alone seeking God’s answers for the problems in my own life.  Singing to the Lord can be a challenge when our thoughts and hearts are turned toward those trials and troubles that seem like ragged impassable mountains, but when we consider His creation before our eyes, we can rejoice in the knowledge that God created all these things and put not only the world, but the whole universe into motion.  We are the fruits of His workmanship.  I can’t help but be reassured that when I see the world and its beauty that a God who can create all this before me can certainly give me the wisdom and strength to deal with my issues.  My troubles are insignificant when I see the grandeur of His creation and how He makes the whole universe fit together perfectly!  We can be assured that a God who can put this universe together with all the details in perfect harmony and precision can put the order and structure we need in our lives so that we can face our challenges.

Those thoughts bring joy to my heart and gives to me a new song to sing unto Him and be thankful for His Grace and Mercy to even me!  Without a doubt in my mind, the Lord is good and His mercy IS everlasting and the truth of His Word, the Holy Bible, does endure forever!
