Yahweh, My Shepherd – Psalm 23

When suicide makes its way into our lives through family or friends, where can I go to get help dealing with the pain?  I think Psalm 23 can be of great comfort.

“Yahweh my shepherd!”  God is watching over you like a shepherd watching over His sheep.

“I don’t need a thing.”  The Good shepherd can offer right here, right now, what we are hoping to find some other time and place.

“You have bedded me down in lush meadows, You find me quiet pools to drink from.”   After a suicide, many people think God has abandoned them.  That is not true.  He is still there to provide your basic needs.

Sometimes you don’t know which way to go in life.  “You let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.”

“Even when the way goes through Death’s Valley, I’m not afraid when You walk at my side.  Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure.”  Even through troubled times like this God reaches down with his shepherd’s staff and pulls us to safety from all the thoughts that go through our minds.

“You make me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies, You revive my drooping head: my cup brims with blessings.” God has not forgotten you.  Even in this horrible situation God is taking care of all your emotional needs.  He will bestow blessings upon you beyond all measure.  You just have to put your faith and trust in Him.

“Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.  I’m back in the house of the Lord for the rest of my life.”  You may feel like God has abandoned you but He is still walking right beside you through the Holy Spirit and He wants once again to bring you back into His house or sheepfold.

My God bless your life tremendously!
